Tour du Mont Blanc Trek

The Tour Du Mont Blanc is known as one of the highlights of any avid trekker’s career.
This trek encompasses over 165 kilometers (103 miles) completed on foot over an eleven day period.
We will pass through Italy, France and Switzerland on the journey, covering over 6,670m/ 21,883ft in ascent and 7,150m/ 23,453ft in descent.

We will cross five major passes, see ten peaks over 4,000m/ 13,123 ft, huge glaciers, unique Alpine flowers, curious wildlife, and some of the most spectacular views of the Alps.

Daily Distances

Day 1

Arrive in the Chamonix. On your first evening you’ll have the opportunity to meet up with the rest of the group and your Trekking Guide. This will give you a chance to check that you have all the correct equipment required and also to run through the weather conditions for the week.

Day 2

Chamonix to Les Houches. This is the first leg of the Tour Du Mont Blanc and you will start from Chamonix centre in the morning. Today is a short walk, perfect for getting you started. You will end the day in Les Houches. Your bags will be transferred to join you there giving you the chance to re-pack and change or hire any equipment you feel you need.

Day 3

Les Houches to Les Contamines. Today you will start by taking the Bellvue cable car from Les Houches. At the top of the Bellevue there are spectacular views of the Dome du Gouter and the Aiguilles. From here you’ll get an idea of the magnitude of the trek and the fascinating scenery that it has to offer.

Day 4

Les Contamines to Les Chapieux. Today’s hikes starts alongside clear running streams and pine forests before ascending to the col Bonhomme. From here you will get spectacular views. From the col it is down hill all the way to the hamlet of Les Chapieux where you will spend the night at the friendly Auberg de la Nova.

Day 5

Les Chapieux to Courmayeur. Today you will cross into Italy, via the Col de la Seigne (2,513m/8,245ft). Our destination is the bustling town of Courmayer, where your bags will be here to meet you.

Day 6

Courmayeur to Refuge Bonnati. Today you will start with an ascent of the Monte De La Saxe Ridge, via the Bertone Hut. This ridge offers fantastic views of the dramatic Italian side of Mont Blanc and the Grande Jorasses. You will have the pleasure of spending the night at the wonderful Bonatti Refuge.

Day 7

Refuge Bonnatti to La Fouly. Today’s hike takes us along the valley wall to the Elena Refuge which is at the start of the days climb up to Col du Grand Ferret and into Switzerland. From the top of the col you will be able to see the snow capped Grand Combin 4,090m (13,419ft) and Mont Dolent 3,823m (12,543ft). The terrain is very different on the Swiss side and the descent down to la Fouly is much more gentle than the Italian ascent.

Day 8

La Fouly to Champex. A relatively easy day which starts off with a gentle downhill walk through woods and pretty Swiss villages. Today you will have time to enjoy a well earned drink by the beautiful lake at Champex. Your bags will be waiting for you at the gate.

Day 9

Champex to Trient. Today’s hike is perhaps one of the most demanding of the tour but the reward is quite magnificent. On reaching the rocky col du Fenetre at 2,670m (8,760ft), the view of the Trient glacier is quite breathtaking. You will need to stop a while to fully appreciate the position you find yourself in looking down towards the seracs and crevasses.

Day 10

Trient to Argentiere. In the morning you retrace yesterday’s path along the Trient valley for a short time, before climbing up through the woods to reach the Col de Balme. Once across the col you are back in France. Tonight you will stay at the charming Gite de Boerne.

Day 11

Tre le Champ to Chamonix. A magnificent way to end the week walking high above the Chamonix valley with spectacular views of the Mt. Blanc Massif. We will go via Lac Blanc, Felgere and Brevant with stunning views all day. Tonight you will again be at the Hotel L’Arve ending the trip where you started.

Day 12

Departure Day, Onward travel home. Changes to the itinerary are at the discretion your International Mountain Leader. Changes may be made due to weather conditions, conditions on the mountains, changes in accommodation, or fitness of the group.

    This trek affords unsurpassed views of the different faces of the Mont Blanc Massif along routes that traverse the Balme mountain passage and the highest point on the Tour du Mont Blanc, the Grand Col Ferret at 2,537m/ 8,323 ft. Crossing the foothills of the Alps through France, Italy and Switzerland provides an opportunity to encounter the alpine cultures and cuisine unique to these areas and is a great way to soak up the warm hospitality for which this region is renowned.
